Japan Trip Planner: Build a Multi-Stop Route
Pick 2 to 5 prefectures on the map and the planner puts them in the shortest order (by distance between prefectural capitals) and suggests how many days to spend at each stop: 1 day, plus 1 for prefectures with over 3 million people and 1 for those larger than 8,000 km², up to 3 days.
How to use it
- Open the map with the planner.
- Tap 2 to 5 prefectures; tap again to remove one.
- Choose Build route to get the itinerary, with best time to visit, highlights and how to get there for each stop.
Example routes
- Tokyo → Kyoto → Osaka: the classic first trip.
- Tokyo → Yamanashi → Shizuoka: Mount Fuji from both sides.
- Ishikawa → Toyama → Gifu: Kanazawa, the Alpine Route and Takayama.
- Hiroshima → Kagawa → Ehime: Miyajima, the art islands and the Shimanami Kaido.
- Fukuoka → Kumamoto → Oita: Kyushu's food, volcanoes and hot springs.
Any route can be linked directly: /p/trip.html?stops= followed by prefecture codes separated by dashes (see the code list).
